ATTENTION EMPLOYERS: NEW STAFFING SERVICE OFFERED

Saturday, January 14, 2012

Employers:

Jobtronix has listened to the feedback that we have received from different employers over the last year. Subsequently, we are in the process of revising/adapting our business model to meet your employment needs.

Within the next few months, Jobtronix will offer a specialized recruitment screening service that will provide a well-matched candidate for your job needs, while saving you money.

Jobtronix has hundreds of registered jobseekers with science and/or tech backgrounds; this ever growing pool of candidates is the base from which we start.

You identify the skill sets and experience you are looking for, and we do the rest - you do not pay until you hire a candidate, it's that easy.

What we will do:
- Manually review resumes (we do not leave that to computers)
- Identify the best-matched candidates for your search criteria
- Verify candidate credentials (Professional verification of candidates education and employment credentials)
- Finally, we will present you with a short-list of best matched, screened candidates for your company to interview, and hire.

You only pay us when you hire one of our candidates.

Why use Jobtronix?
Because we believe that you should only pay us 100% of our fee when you are 100% satisfied with your new employee. For that reason, we offer the following payment structure:

1st payment: 50% payment upon hire/signing
2nd payment: 50% payment 3 months from time of hire

Stay tuned for more information (approx. Feb 2012)

If you are interested in learning more about our new service, please contact me at the email below.

Top Tech Jobs for 2011

Tuesday, April 26, 2011

Drum roll, please … and make that a computerized drum roll. Technology jobs — such as mobile developers, web designers and software engineers — will be the “It” positions in 2011, a new report predicts, because the field offers the most openings, career-growth opportunities and highest salaries.

Marketing, health care and finance industries also will provide job seekers with many openings and lofty compensation, according to recruiting firm CyberCoders, which analyzed hiring statistics and 12,000 job listings to make its predictions.

Five Most Promising Tech Jobs in 2011

Tuesday, April 26, 2011

Five of the most promising occupations next year will be in technology, with designers of web interfaces expected to see the largest salary gains in 2011. Developers of corporate back-office applications will have the most job opportunities, according to staffing firm Robert Half International.

All of the IT occupations on Robert Half's list of "Eleven Promising Jobs for 2011" will pay more next year, on average, even as many U.S. workers are forced to take pay cuts.

"Companies are willing to invest in IT if they can see a return on investment," said John Reed, executive director of Robert Half's technology unit. "All of these jobs can be tied to ROI."

The list was based on data that the staffing firm compiled for its annual industry-specific salary surveys.

Is TV contributing to 'useless' degrees?

Tuesday, April 12, 2011

Is TV contributing to the seduction of 'useless' degrees?

If you are an older reader of this column, just ask yourself this. Would you not be tempted to go back and train as something different, had you been given the opportunity, based on the script of a popular television show today?

The Generation Y are fickle. But arguably, had the older generation been in our position today, with the glamour and sex appeal of high octane drama on television and in computer games, one might believe they might fall for it too.

I call this ’surplus degree’ effect. I’ll call dibs on the phrase. It is where there are too many graduates for the jobs available in any given local or national economy. And forensic science students and multimedia technology students are some of the worst affected.

UK intelligence agency 'recommends' BlackBerry

Tuesday, April 12, 2011

UK intelligence agency 'recommends' BlackBerry for security; iPhones still banned.

GCHQ’s Communications and Electronics Security Group (CESG), part of the UK’s intelligence agency network, which tests security for government departments and their devices, says that the BlackBerry device is secure enough for government operations.

Last year, the UK Government banned iPhones in all departments because CESG could verify its security and therefore cannot approve the device to handle sensitive government documents.

iPhones are still banned in government, because they are simply not secure enough, or not yet proved to be as such.

Tips on Applying to Government of Canada Jobs

Monday, March 28, 2011

While the task of applying to jobs within the federal government can be a somewhat daunting task, it is not impossible to do so; the most challenging part of getting a government job is the screening process.

By understanding the screening process, you can greatly improve your chances of "passing the gate" and getting your foot into the door on a possibly great career within the Government of Canada.

What you need to understand is that there are two important criteria that government agencies adhere to, Essential and Asset qualifications.

As the name implies, essential qualifications are the minimum standard, the "must haves" for a particular job. The asset qualifications on the other hand are "nice to haves".

While it is not necessary to posses the asset qualifications in order to screen into a government job, having those particular "nice to haves" can assist your candidacy once you're in the door.

Within the next week, I will be providing further insight into the screening in process which forms the most integral stage of the application process involved in applying to Government of Canada jobs.

Ottawa’s tech jobs: Whose numbers lie?

Monday, March 28, 2011

OCRI and StatsCan differ by a stunning 31,700 when they tally tech jobs in Ottawa. James Bagnall digs into the difference.

So who’s right? The Ottawa Centre for Research and Innovation on Thursday published its latest annual survey of high-tech firms in the city, concluding that the number of tech workers was 74,600 in December.
Yet Statistics Canada reported that Ottawa-Gatineau’s tech workforce was just 42,900.

The size of the gap is astonishing, considering the two agencies are trying to measure the same thing. And the discrepancy has never been as great.

How are differences of this magnitude possible?

Science High in ranking of best and worst jobs

Saturday, March 26, 2011

A California-based job-search company called CareerCast has for several years compiled a ranking of jobs according to a desirability measure that goes well beyond income.

For each type of job CareerCast figures in rankings of stress, physical demands, hazardous or unpleasant working environments, whether there's a lot of jobs going, and likelihood of pay increases, as well as salary.

And surprise, scientists and engineers come out looking rather good.

Public Service Entrance Exam (PSEE)

Friday, March 25, 2011

Seems the Government of Canada is tightening the screening process for public sector jobs.

The Public Service of Canada (PSC) is piloting a new Public Service Entrance Exam (PSEE).

The exam consists of three (3) parts:
1. Problem-solving and reasoning ability;
2. Judgement; and
3. Written communication

It sounds like your standard "general aptitude test", which seems to be utilized more and more with enry-level jobs into the Government.
